More validation that Google doesnt “develop” good products

All I hear from other business school students in my classes is that Google is amazing at developing products and coming up with innovative new products.  However, I have disagreed since I first saw their attempts to launch "Yahoo-like" copycat products a few years ago.
 
Dont get me wrong, I do believe that their core ad-product is great at monetization and relevance and their acquired products (think Google Earth/Maps and Picasa/Hello) are great.
 
However, I read a great article which effectively uses data that I cant get access to anymore to show that while Google’s internally developed products might be considered "innovative" by some people , they surely dont meet the implicit customer needs that other companies considered "less innovative" like Microsoft and Yahoo!
