Yahoo backing away from content creation…

Although I have been saying that Yahoo! should not be in the content creation business since the day that they hired Lloyd Braun, it is nice to hear them say the same thing in the press today.  The internet has not yet evolved to the point where people are ready to watch long shows on their computer or on the internet.

Once the late majority people have Media Center-like environments in their home where they can view TV and Internet content with the same ease, custom content will truly be focused on the best programming and not focused on the medium (ie network TV vs. cable vs. internet).  That day is coming but it is still a while off as media center experiences are still a little ways off.

I do applaud Yahoo! though for divesting itself from the endeavor however.  It would have been easy to view the group as a sunk cost and keep it going despite the fact that it doesnt fit with their user-generated content strategy.
