Craigslist…it’s not about the money but our customers.

Is there anything better than the CEO of a website (or any products company) coming out and saying that their goal was not to make money but to give their customers exactly what they wanted?

Craigslist not surprisingly did just that in an Analyst presentation this week (although I sort of feel like the article is a practical joke on the Analyst community).

Some notable quotes:

"… How about running AdSense ads from Google? Craigslist has considered that, Mr. Buckmaster said. They even crunched the numbers, which were “quite staggering.” But users haven’t expressed an interest in seeing ads, so it is not going to happen."

"… Larry Dignan, writing on Between the Lines blog at ZDNet, called Mr. Buckmaster “delightfully communist,” and described the audience as “confused capitalists wondering how a company can exist without the urge to maximize profits.”
