Recommendation: Two new types of beer that I learned about this weekend
This weekend I learned about two new types of beer when I was at a wedding in upstate New York: Utica Club (an older local beer) and Miller Chill (a new "chelada" beer from Miller). Since I am not a serious micro-beer drinker and I in fact prefer the macro-brew, I found both of these to be phenomenal.
Utica Club (UC) is a local beer which reminded me a lot of another one of my favorite local Pennsylvania Beers — Yuengling Lager. UC was cold, cheap, plentiful, and tasty. Plus, their claim to fame is that they were the first beer sold after the prohibition.
The Miller Chill was something totally different. It appears cheesy at first and I almost didn’t try it because I thought it would taste horrible. I tried it and my initial visual impression was wrong. The first taste wasn’t great but after a few sips, it really grew on me. I don’t know how many I could drink in one sitting, but it is definitely refreshing and dangerously tasty….
So if you are ever near Saranac, NY (see map below) make sure you get yourself a Utica Club and make sure that you try a Miller Chill this summer before it leaves stores (I believe it is a summer thing only). And if you have had either one, let me know your thoughts!

UPDATE: I just checked out the actual website from Miller and while it clearly has a Hispanic theme, I was appalled to find that they just plain disrespected the Spanish language. Look at the use of the title "Los Facts" in the image below. Is that in bad taste or is it me?
