Review: Gears of War Video Game
I must be living in a dark hole since supposedly Microsoft has been marketing this game for the past year and a half and I had never heard of it. But I just read this article and I have to say that it looks pretty damn cool.
I also got positive comments from one of my friends who works in the video game industry, and he said that it is one of those "game changing" products.
Maybe I’ll buy an Xbox 360 in order to play it….or maybe not.

Update: I was just reminded by a friend of another very valid and powerful viewpoint on these types of videogames. To quote her:
"Video games like that one and Grand Theft Auto are actually part of a huge problem of violence pervading our culture. Young men are in crisis with how to be sensitive, caring, yet masculine and strong. They are receiving very mixed messages. Bombarded by images of violence in every aspect of the media, our boys and teens are not taught how to openly discuss how it affects gender violence, gang violence and aggression without feeling like a "sissy"."
I picked up this game on Saturday and it rocks. I have only played it for about an hour or so, but it\’s pretty hardcore. I don\’t agree with the viewpoint of your friend of a friend.
Yes, some kids are impressionable, and yes some kids can\’t handle these types of games. Is this really an issue for the media / video game makers? Some kids can tell the difference between video games and real life. Unfortunately, some can\’t. For those who can not, their parents need to make sure that their kids aren\’t exposed to this type of violence. My son couldn\’t handle watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles without flipping out for an hour or two so I took the DVDs away. It\’s not difficult.
It is up to parents to teach our kids about gender violence, gang violence and agression.
